Creating something with your hands and your creativity is fun, healthy, satisfying, and relaxing. Research clearly supports this — you can feel it throughout your body when you are fully absorbed in something you care about. Having a project brings calm, focus, skill development, and a sense of purpose. Anyone who knits, crochets, or solves Rubik’s cubes knows this feeling well. If you’ve ever envied people who work with their hands but haven’t yet found your own element, we warmly invite you to choose this elective.
Together, we will explore what our hands — and the materials we work with — are capable of. We will carve wood, but what can you carve? A cup, a knife, a spoon, a totem figure, a walking stick, or a set of chopsticks. The possibilities are endless, and you are free to dive into exactly the project that inspires you.
Sitting together in concentration and deep focus creates a strong sense of community. You will learn different carving techniques tailored to what you want to make. We will talk about wood types, design, and sustainability, and together we will develop our skills and craftsmanship. You will create something that becomes a lasting memory — something beautiful that can be used and enjoyed for many years to come.
No prior knowledge, experience, or qualifications are required to start carving. This course is for anyone who wants to try working with wood. Of course, we will also enjoy a good cup of coffee, snacks, and cozy social moments together.
The instructor for this course is our adventure teacher, Christoffer Troelsgaard. In addition to being a passionate outdoor enthusiast, he is highly skilled with his hands and dedicated to creating objects that last and can be used for many years.
