Choir

You may not know it, but you actually LOVE singing in a choir! Or – at least you will if you choose to join the choir at Rønde Højskole! Choir is for those who love to sing! Maybe you have sung in a choir before, maybe it has been a long time – or maybe you are a complete beginner? Everyone is welcome!

In choir we work with the voice as an instrument, and you are introduced to various warm-up exercises and basic voice techniques, such as breathing, support, dynamics and choosing a voice function, and we practice becoming more aware of our own voice. In addition, we focus on the body, because you may think that singing is something that happens inside the mouth, but in fact we need the whole body to sing well. At the school we sing together every day, but choir is not the same experience at all. Here you will also learn which voice group you belong to, as we usually sing in a polyphonic voice. You will experience that each week you will become better and better at holding your own voice among the others. You do not need to be able to read music.

In choir we primarily sing rhythmic pop/rock music, but we also like to throw ourselves into classical pieces or songs from the school songbook. You will therefore be able to sing everything from Lana Del Rey and David Bowie to Carl Nielsen and Sebastian. In choir we focus on the common project of singing together. We sing fun, accessible works and experience how singing together can create a very special community. We do not practice towards anything specific, but there is a tradition that we perform a number in the local area sometime during the stay and that we sing for the other students of the school when the opportunity arises.

In choir it is important for us to know our musical standpoint. Therefore, along the way, you will also become acquainted with choral music as it looked 100 years ago, and as it unfolds on the world stage today. Choir is not just about singing; it is about creating a strong community and deep connections through music. We support and inspire each other and build friendships across our musical journey. When we sing in a choir, we discover
that there is more between the lines; both between the musical lines and the lyrics. So join the choir and join a unique community of joy, energy and love! We sound good, but above all, it is a lot of fun!
