Band

Music, creativity and collaboration

Are you an experienced guitarist who, deep down, always wanted to be a drummer? Or have you never played music before, but always dreamed of being the lead singer in a band? Or are you an experienced bassist who needs to be challenged on your instrument? Then you should join band class!

But why play music at all, you might ask? There are actually many good reasons for that, because playing with others can both have a positive impact on your mental well-being and strengthen your social space.

You will:

  • express yourself creatively!
  • improve your motor skills!
  • train your concentration and your ability to focus!
  • reduce stress!
  • cultivate a social space!
  • strengthen your self-confidence and increase your self-development!
  • improve your memory!
  • increase your cultural understanding!

Yes, there are plenty of benefits, but for a band, the most important thing is that you want to play a lot of music. Whether you have played before is not so crucial, as it is quite possible to play together despite different levels of expertise. In band class, we figure out together what you want to play, and whether you want to improve your skills on an instrument or if we should rotate and try a new instrument each time.

We will explore different genres and styles and experiment with everything from modern music such as Minds of 99 and Ed Sheeran to legends from the 70s such as Queen and The Cure. If you have a favorite band, this is where you get the opportunity to share your passion with others and dive into one of the songs that means something very special to you.

As a band, we focus on the special process of playing together and making a song work and sound good. We don’t practice for anything specific, but if the mood is right, we’ll put on a concert or two so that the others at school can hear what we’ve been working on – and one of the best things is hearing the roar of your friend’s rhythmic applause when you decide to unleash a real banger at a party!

We work with music in the broadest sense of the word, so you will also be introduced to general music theory such as rhythm and musical notation. You are welcome to bring your own instrument, but otherwise the music room is equipped with everything you need.
