Classes & subjects

As an international student at Rønde Folk High School, you participate in some classes which mainly focus on learning Danish language and culture. Beside these mandatory classes you can put together your own week plan by combining with some of the inspiring electives.

Put together your own week plan

Here’s how it works: As an international student, some classes are mandatory and some are electives. Your main subject will be “Danish language & culture”, where we work on Danish grammar, vocabulary and conversational skills. Our subject “Life in Denmark” is also a mandatory part of the danish class.

The folk high school environment gives you a unique opportunity to take what you learn in the Danish lessons and put it to use in your daily life at the school and your meeting with our Danish students.

Danish is a tricky language, but you will be surprised when you discover how much you can learn during your stay! In Danish class, you will learn Danish conversation and basic Grammar. During these lessons you will also get a chance to get an explanation on words and expressions you have discovered when you have been practicing your Danish.

How much Danish you learn is up to you -you will learn a lot in your Danish class, but where you really learn to speak the language is when you skip English and start talking Danish with your roommate and your Danish friends.

We are studying different subjects in Danish, but they are all related to Denmark:

  • Danish tradition and culture (The history of the Danish Højskole)
  • Danish history and geography
  • Seasons and holidays
  • Fairytales and folk stories
  • Discuss news and compare it to your home country
  • Visit the local community and talk about traditions

The school has different study books in Danish so you can practise your Danish in your spare time.

We do not offer formal Danish tests.

Apart from your Danish lessons, you out togehter your own schedule based on your interests and areas you wish to try to explore. We offer a wide range of classes in the creative, musical, or sportive fields as well as what we call “existential classes” such as politics. There is plenty to choose from, and our goal is to make sure that your weekly schedule offers inspiration, education and challanges for all students.
